Paul Resurreccion, TCW President

I was able to reach out to John Gill shortly after he signed with Abilene Christian University. John graduated in the Fall so he could accept a Preferred Walk On offer in the Spring in hopes of earning a scholarship. He believed in himself and he put in all of the work needed to make it happen. John is our first Warrior to play at the D1 level since 2015 – Sam Stanley, Sam Houston State University/Texas A&M.

What does it mean to you to have the opportunity to play at the next level?

-it’s reassuring that the hours of work I put into this sport was truly put towards something of great value.

Why did you choose Abilene Christian University?

-it seemed like the best option, well developed football program. And a really difficult science program that would challenge me.

How has your time with the Tomball Christian Warriors prepared you for this next step?

-Developing relationships with coaches and players, I feel as if there was a good understanding and telling of what we should do as not just players but also as people on TCW.

What has been your biggest challenge in your athletic journey so far?

-overcoming challenges and having reasons to quit but choosing not to.

Who has been your biggest influence or supporter throughout your football/cheer career?

-I would say my trainer Chris Crooms and my older brother Derek who also played for TCW way before me.

What are you most excited about as you transition to college athletics?

-I’m most excited about having all this higher level material to help me become better as an athlete.

What advice would you give to younger athletes who aspire to play at the next level?

-The hardest part about being recruited is being seen. So if you go to a showcase or a camp, you’ll have to give 100% in everything and can’t treat it as if it’s a fun day, because at the end of it all it’s truly a work trip if you truly want it.

How do you plan to continue growing both as an athlete and in your faith during this next chapter?

-by not focusing all my time into football, but also making it an importance. In life and sports it should go faith, family, academics, then football.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank for helping you get to this moment?

-I’d like to thank my dad, my trainer C.Crooms. I’d also like to thank my coaches who coached me from junior high all the up to high school, such as Coach Alderson, Huard, and Burke.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind at TCW?

-The legacy I hope to leave for TCW is to be a light onto what you can accomplish, even at a homeschool level.
