Tomball Christian Warriors Achieve Historic Victory with First NHFA National Championship

Panama City Beach, FL – November 18, 2023

In a remarkable display of skill, resilience, and strategic brilliance, the Tomball Christian Warriors secured their first-ever NHFA National Championship, making football history under the dynamic leadership of first-year Head Coach Skeet Alderson. This is also the first National Championship won by a Texas team. The NHFA hosted it’s 16th tournament with 16 teams from 10 different states competing. The Top 4 National Championship bracket featured #1 Defending National Champions Tulsa NOAH Jaguars, #2 2018/2019 National Champion and 2022 Division 2 Champion Christ Prep Patriots, #3 Oklahoma City Patriots and #4 Tomball Christian Warriors.

The Warriors have participated in the Top 4 Championship for the last 4 years. In 2020, they lost in the final 52.9 seconds to the Georgia Force Blue Knights. In 2021, they lost to the Lighthouse Christian Chargers by 3 points. And last season ranked #2 they lost in the semi-final match to Georgia Force.

Senior Captain/QB, Drew Harrison,”We went into the tournament locked in and we understood the challenge we had to overcome. No one was going to feel bad for us, and nobody outside of TCW believed in us. The said we were undersized on the o-line, our defense wasn’t strong enough, and our situational play calling was sketchy. They put us in the 4 spot, but despite that, out guys knew we deserved the #1 spot. It was was just time to prove it. We weren’t going to let anyone or anything stand in our way. We were forced to go take it, the national championship trophy wasn’t going to be handed to us before the games were played. We had to go take that cookie.”

From being ranked #1 a few weeks before the tournament to eventually being ranked fourth in the nation by the tournament committee, the Warriors showcased their versatility by defeating the defending National Champions, Tulsa NOAH Jaguars, in a thrilling semi-final match with a score of 23-9. This victory set the stage for a showdown with the formidable Christ Prep Academy Patriots, where the Warriors triumphed with an impressive 17-0 win at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City Beach, Florida.

The championship game was a testament to the team’s commitment to excellence, controlling the game in multiple facets. Despite initial external concerns about the defense, labeled as a potential weakness due to perceived gaps, the Warriors held both opponents to a mere 9 points, showcasing their adaptability and defensive prowess. They continued to prevent the big plays from ever taking place and held the opposing teams key playmakers in check.

An area highlighted as a challenge was the control of the line of scrimmage, a notion the Warriors offensive line defied. They efficiently controlled the line, neutralizing the playmaking abilities of D1 athletes from both Tulsa NOAH and Christ Prep. Captain/Offensive Lineman Tom Frye, ” This Nationals Tournament was a blast. We had some stiff competition, even with that our team this year wanted the championship win more than I have ever seen in years past. We have a tight band of brothers here.”

The front seven on the defensive side played a pivotal role, dominating both games and forcing a total of six interceptions. The Warriors’ ability to dictate the pace and force opponents into challenging situations underscored their strategic acumen. Senior Captain/Safety Jack Alderson, “It is a special opportunity in High School to get to play for a National Championship. I am thankful to get to be a part of the first TCW Championship Team. After coming so close in the past, it is still sinking in that we finally did it!”

In recognition of their outstanding contributions, eight Warriors were named NHFA All-American All Stars for their leadership, sportsmanship, and overall team contribution. The NHFA All-Star Team includes RB/LB Caleb Harmon, T/DT Tom Frye, QB Drew Harrison, S Jack Alderson, S/WR Ty Rosenbusch, WR Cameron Frank, and WR Josiah Nellis.

Adding another feather to the cap, Caleb Harmon was awarded the NHFA Tournament MVP for his stellar performances in both the semi-final and championship games. Senior Captain/RB/LB Caleb Harmon, ” Man, the National Championship felt unreal. People didn’t believe that we could win it all but we proved them wrong.”

Paul Resurreccion, President at Tomball Christian Warriors, expressed immense pride in the team, coaching staff, and the entire TCW community. He stated, “This National Championship is a symbol of our collective dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to developing not just athletes but young men of character. Not bad for a bunch of homeschoolers and volunteers huh? Let’s do it again next year!”
