About the Author; Ella Hippel

I talked to senior Josiah Stavinoha about a play he made in junior high, what he’s looking forward to this season, and more.

Ella: How long have you been playing football and how has it had an impact on your life?

Josiah: This is my fifth year playing football. As far as an impact it’s been a way of life because my family has been doing football for like ten or eleven years; almost since the Warriors started so I grew up into the sport. It’s helped me a lot with determination and discipline.

Ella: What’s the best play you’ve ever made?

Josiah: Probably back in junior high my first year playing. We were about 40 yards from the goal line and it was a 7th grade game with the younger guys so I was out there. Will Watkins, it was also his first year playing at the time; he tells me “Hey I’m going to throw it to you.” I had not caught a long pass or anything. At that point I had been catching like short passes. So I went out there, no idea what I was doing. Coach told me, “Make sure you catch the ball.” I said “I’ll try,”. He says, “No, catch it.” I’m like, “Ok I’ll catch it.” I go out there and I just run a straight line. I didn’t know what I was doing at the time, just ran a straight line, looked up; Will throws the ball perfectly placed right on my outside shoulder. I had no idea what tracking was or anything, I just put my hands up. The corner trips, I catch the ball, and then I stumble into the end zone and, touchdown.

Ella: If you could play any other position, what would it be and why?

Josiah: I have two. If I bulked up a little bit I’d probably play tight end or defensive end. Probably just defensive end. It’s a really fun position. A lot of movement and you get a lot of action.

Ella: Do you have a pregame playlist, and if you do, what’s on it?

Josiah: I don’t have a pregame playlist. Actually, probably Taylor Swift honestly. But other than that, no.

Ella: What are you looking forward to most this season?

Josiah: New offense. We’ve got Coach Cassidy as our offensive coordinator so we should do pretty well. He’s been doing very well with the plays and I’m happy to see guys showing up.

Ella: After a game, where are you going out to eat and what are you ordering?

Josiah: Probably just a #1 at Whataburger.

Ella: What is your main goal for the off-season and how do you plan to achieve that goal?

Josiah: Get my lifts up, gain weight, and gain speed. And that’s only accomplished in the gym five days a week.
