TCW vs East Bernard
Written by Varsity Cheerleader, Claire Alderson
Last Friday night, the Warriors came up short against a very talented and well coached Brahma football team. East Bernard is currently ranked seventh in the state of Texas amongst 3A High School teams. The Warrior Defense was tough all night as the offense struggled to get rolling. Our defense was led my Junior NT, Jacob Muhle, while offensively Daniel Abraham delivered a strong performance as receiver. After the game I interview Senior WR, John Gill, and Junior S and K Daniel Abraham.
John Gill Interview
John currently plans to play football in college and has a Preferred Walk-On offer, at Abilene Christian University. He is a Senior that has played for the Warriors since sixth grade, in 2018. However, John’s family has been a part of Tomball Christian for the last eleven years. He is the fourth Gill brother to play for the Warriors.
What do you like about TCW?
John: The family, I feel like since it’s not a huge public school, where everyone’s separated, everyone is a lot more tight with each other and know each other. We know what’s going on in our personal lives and everyone’s names, middle names, last names.
Why do you play football?
John: This is a tough question. I guess, just to see how far I can push myself, because I know that I want to push myself to that low spot. I don’t like sitting behind the lines and just watching everything go by. I want to be there. I want to be the best that I can, and if I do bad, then I want to get better. If I do good, then I want to get better.
What are your goals this year?
John: So my second oldest brother was classified in my family as the best athlete that we had. I’m trying to surpass that by matching his best stats throughout his high school career and I want to beat those. That’s my goal.
What do you think the team did well?
John: Defense. Reading that run play, they crashed down every single time. If it ran right up the middle, they would stop it. If it ran outside, they would stop it. I think we did good on offense when it came to running. Conner Burke did a great job, running it up the B gaps.
Who do you think played well?
John: Daniel [Abraham], this was a forty five yards pass. There was not one, not two, there were three defenders on this boy, right in front of him, and he caught it over all of them. I want to call out him. I want to call out Jeremiah [Wilkins]. He did great on defense. Owen [Wilkins]. This boy is a dual side of the ball threat, offense and defense. He didn’t play much offense today, but that was because they were saving him for defense. I just want to give a shoutout to the whole Defense-line, because [Jacob] Muhle did a great job crashing down those holes, getting outside containment when he played D-end, which isn’t his normal position. He did great job on that.
What do you think you did well?
John: I did well with what we were presented. Because they reset their entire defense from when were watched film. It was a whole new defense than we prepared for. I think I got a good few blocks on them, going to the outside. I started defense at the very end. I think I did pretty well at that.
Daniel Interview
Daniel Abraham has played for Tomball Christian for the last six years. He’s still deciding whether or not he will play football in college.
How long have been a part of TCW?
Daniel: I joined my sixth grade year so six years.
What do you like about TCW?
Daniel: I’m not entirely sure what exactly it is with TCW, but compared to other teams it’s just a better relationship aspect between the players and the coaches. The coaches really care about our success and building us up. I just love that.
Why do you play football?
Daniel: I play football, just because I love the game. I’ve watched it since I was little, and I’ve always wanted to be like my role models.
What are your goals this year?
Daniel: This year is really just about building confidence in myself for my senior year. There’s a lot of goals. I guess National Championship is obvious to repeat. I would say for myself I want to continue to get better.
What do you think the team did well?
Daniel: I think offensively we needed to be more consistent but we made some good plays. Defensively we dominated physically.
Who do you think played well?
Daniel: Jacob Muhle had a really good game, made I don’t know three or four sacks. I would say our whole defense. Especially Jerry [Wilkins] and Houston [Bynum] bringing physicality.
What do you think you did well?
Daniel: I think I ran good, crisp routes as a receiver. I made a couple good catches.
